It is believed that the Goddess "Mangala Devi" lived in Mangalore, in ancient times. The people addressed this city as "Mangalapura" and later it became "Mangalore". Mangalore was the capital of Alupa dynasty till 14th century.Various powers fought for control over Mangalore for centuries. In 1956, Mangalore became part of the state of Karnataka. Manglore is one of the major ports in India.
Mangaluru is known for its beaches, temples and industries. There are many places that attract the tourists in Mangalore. There are 3 major temples in manglore that are always crowded with devotees. They are the Mangladevi Temple, Someshwar Temple, and Kadri Temple.
